Annual District G - CIP Meeting Set for March 3 6:00 p.m.

Upcoming Annual District G Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Meeting

The Houston City Council District G Annual CIP (Capital Improvement Plan) meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 3 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  It will be held at the Paul Revere Middle School, 10502 Briar Forest Drive 77042 (just west of Sam Houston Beltway 8) in the school's auditorium.

Briarmeadow residents are encouraged to attend to support several area proposed CIP Projects:

(1) Proposed Improvements to Briarmeadow Park: $126,000 has been allocated in FY 2011 (beginning July 1, 2010) to improve Briarmeadow Park. While this is a good start, it is not enough money to make all improvements that residents have requested (new playground, resurfaced tennis courts with completion of fence enclosure and new net, new walking path, and substantial tree planting). Please plan to attend the CIP meeting and speak in favor of allocating additional funds to Briarmeadow Park.

(2) CIP # N-000814: The complete redesign and reconstruction of Richmond Avenue between Hillcroft on the east and S. Gessner on the west will be funded with $1.2 Million in FY 2013 (design and engineering) and $8.0 Million in FY 2014 (construction). This will help to alleviate the severe flooding that occurs on Richmond every time it rains as well as providing a smooth driving surface.

(3) CIP # E-000047: The complete renovation of the Jungman Library will be funded with $893,000 in FY 2013 (design) and $7,770,000 in FY 2014 (construction). Last summer, $243,000 was spent at the Jungman Library to bring it up to ADA & Texas Architectural Barriers standards. The library was built in 1975 and has NEVER been renovated. If you want to see our local library (which is in horrible shape!!) completely renovated, please show up at the CIP Meeting and voice your support.

Remember that CIP projects get prioritized every year and it is possible for these projects to keep getting moved down on the priority list. Only by having a number of Briarmeadow residents attend District G’s CIP meeting and speaking in favor of these improvements will we be able to maintain our priority. If you want to show up in support of these projects, please respond to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . More information about the CIP meeting will be provided once the date and location have been established.

Remember that the motto for CIP projects is that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. If a Council Member does not hear support for a particular project there is a good chance an assumption will be made that the project does not have wide support and other projects that have vocal support will be funded first. In terms of citizen participation, "the more the merrier". You do not have to make a lecture—simply sign up to speak at the meeting and tell your Council Member that you support a particular project and want to see it funded ASAP.
