Residents Should Prepare for Freezing Temperatures. (Harris County, TX) – When winter temperatures drop significantly below normal, staying warm and safe can become a challenge. The Harris County Citizen Corps reminds area residents to take precautions to protect life and property during the winter weather, including checking on elderly, taking care of pets and livestock, protecting plants and exposed plumbing.
Here are some tips for dealing with freezing temperatures (remember the four "P’s"):

The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (OHSEM) reminds motorists that when temperatures reach at or just above 32‐degrees, a thin layer of water on the roads and highways can turn to slick ice, making for dangerous driving conditions.
OHSEM offers the following driving tips to motorists traveling slick or icy roads:
Sidewalk Improvements on Richmond

You may have noticed the City of Houston is in the process of replacing the sidewalks on the north side of Richmond Avenue between Hillcroft and Chris Drive. The request for these repairs was made by the Mid-West Super Neighborhood #20’s first SNAP (Super Neighborhood Action Plan). This is part of $1,293,151.73 in improvements being made to sidewalks along fourteen streets throughout the city. Work began on August 3, 2009 and is scheduled to end by January 29, 2010.

The Holidays are just around the corner so it’s that time of the year again to show our gratitude and support to our Briarmeadow Patrol Officers! We will also be thanking HPD Officers at the nearby Richmond Storefront and our local Fire Fighters at HFD Piney Point Station #60 who work year-round to serve and protect us.We are so fortunate to have Lauren Teare, Alison Prouty and Kathleen McDaniel Lee volunteer to organize and oversee this effort.
